Strengthening Bonds: RSGC and Hakone Country Club’s Annual Friendly Interclub Match

In August 2016, Kanikeyosan from Hakone Country Club initiated discussions with RSGC Management, proposing a reciprocal partnership between the two prestigious clubs. This collaboration was formalized on 16 October 2016, with the signing of a reciprocal agreement by past Captain Dato Chang See Tum of RSGC and President Toshio Iwasaki of Hakone Country Club.

The 2024 reciprocal visit, held over the weekend of 2 and 3 March, was marked by the RSGC’s warm hospitality towards the Hakone Country Club during the Annual Friendly Interclub Match. The event commenced with breakfast in the Banquet Hall, paired with a group photograph against the picturesque backdrop of the Old Course, setting a harmonious tone for the competition and camaraderie to follow. The first day featured 52 players competing in an Individual Stableford format on the East Course, followed by an afternoon celebration of Malaysian multicultural dances by BalleBalle Entertainment, which was particularly well-received by the Japanese guests. The day concluded with a group photo with the performers, capturing the essence of cultural exchange and mutual appreciation.

Mirroring the first day’s enthusiasm, the subsequent day unfolded with breakfast and another group photo, followed by the golfing challenge with 52 players on the East Course. It was a memorable moment when Dato Chang and President Iwasaki played together, reminiscent of their initial agreement signing in 2015, reinforcing the partnership’s roots and importance. The camaraderie and competitive spirit culminated in the Banquet Hall with a luncheon and the much-anticipated prizegiving ceremony. RSGC Captain John Eu’s warm welcome and toast set the stage for Hakone President Toshio Iwasaki’s reciprocal gestures, fostering an atmosphere of enduring friendship. The presentation of prizes by the team captains, and the performance by RSGC resident band ‘In The Groove, marked a fitting close to the event.

This year’s gathering not only honoured the ongoing tradition but also highlighted the deeprooted bonds of friendship and respect between RSGC and Hakone Country Club. The exchange of mementos between Captain John Eu and Hakone President Toshio Iwasaki underscored the mutual admiration at the heart of this relationship. Reflecting on the success of this year’s event, we look forward to the continuation of this esteemed tradition, confident in its ability to nurture the growth and prosperity of our partnership for years to come. The memories and friendships cultivated during this event are invaluable, epitomizing the unity and respect between the two clubs.
