In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Sim Jane etched her name into RSGC annals as the youngest champion ever, clinching both the Ladies Club Champion and Junior Girls Club Champion titles in this year’s Annual Club Championship 2024 held from January to February. This historic feat, accomplished at the tender age of 11, shattered records and set a new standard for both the junior and lady golfers divisions.
Beginning her golf journey at the age of eight, inspired by her father’s support, Jane’s progression from a passionate beginner to a double champion was driven by her innate talent and dedication. Her journey is a continuous pursuit of excellence, underpinned by her untiring stamina and training sessions with three Korean coaches, and the lessons she took from RSGC Golf Academy former coach’s Nate Stevenson once a week.
In an exclusive interview, Jane shares insights into her extraordinary accomplishments, her game strategy after a challenging first day, and advice for aspiring junior golfers, emphasizing the significance of daily practice and commitment. Despite her young age, Jane’s impressive list of 22 notable achievements, including multiple championship wins and high placements, showcases her exceptional prowess and potential in golf.
You have accomplished an impressive feat by clinching both the Ladies Club Champion and Junior Girls Champion awards. How do you feel about this remarkable achievement?
RSGC Junior Champion was my goal this year, so I expected it to some extent. But I didn’t expect Ladies Club Champion and I still can’t believe it. I am so happy. • You managed to secure several birdies, which is impressive
You managed to secure several birdies, which is impressive on this course. Can you briefly describe your game?
I played badly on the first day. My ball went into the bunker at almost every hole, and in fact, I just didn’t have any luck. So I changed and played with a focused mindset on every shot on the second day, and I think this led to the good results.
With numerous junior players in the club, could you offer a golf tip for them?
I believe I still have much to learn and improve upon. However, if I were to share my experience, it would be the importance of daily practice and dedication. I think consistent effort is key to realizing one’s dreams in golf.
