A Toast to Success: The Club’s Recent Wine Tasting Event

The Club’s recent Wine Tasting Event at The Green proved to be a resounding success, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 60 members. The event showcased a selection of exceptional New Zealand wines and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, highlighting the event’s popularity and the Members’ desire for more frequent tastings.

A Celebratory Occasion

The wine tasting event featured a curated selection of five distinct New Zealand wines, each representing a different style and profile:

• Sherwood Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2022 – Renowned as a leading white wine variety, this Sauvignon Blanc captivated with its crisp and refreshing qualities.

• Woven Stone Pinot Gris 2021 – Gaining popularity as an alternative to Sauvignon Blanc, this Pinot Gris offered a delightful and rapidly growing choice among white wines.

• Stratum Pinot Noir 2022 – This light red wine, noted for its outstanding global growth, provided a nuanced and elegant tasting experience.

• Leveret Estate Merlot Cabernet 2019 – A classic heavier red wine blend

• Nikau Points Reserve Syrah 2017 – Known for its heavier red wine characteristics, this Syrah (or Shiraz) added depth and complexity to the tasting lineup.

The event ran smoothly, thanks in large part to NZU, which supplied the wines and provided a team led by their experienced sommelier, Terrence Kong. The team efficiently served the wines at the Members’ tables, ensuring a warm and friendly atmosphere that contributed to the event’s success.

Immediate availability of the featured New Zealand wines was a notable highlight, with nearly 100 bottles ordered by Members during the event. This level of interest underscores the popularity of the wines and suggests a strong demand for similar events in the future.

Looking Forward

Feedback from the Members has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a desire for regular wine tasting events. Several Members suggested that the Club consider holding these events every two months, reflecting a keen interest in making wine tastings a recurring feature.

Additionally, there have been suggestions for the Club to install a cooler at The Green. This would facilitate immediate availability of the wines, allowing Members and staff to efficiently access and enjoy the selections with ease.
