Kelvin Xie Wins the 300 Club Trophy 2024

On Sunday morning, 20th October 2024, 51 players gathered to compete for the highly coveted 300 Club Trophy. The day began with a light rain, leaving the course wet and making this trophy event even more challenging for the players.

This prestigious annual event offers the unique honour of receiving a magnificent kabuto samurai headgear as the trophy. The trophy was donated by the Three Hundred Club of Japan, one of our reciprocal clubs, symbolizing the strong partnership established between our clubs after signing the reciprocal agreement.

The Three Hundred Club, located in Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a historic and prestigious golfing institution. Originally named “Chigasaki Golf Course,” the club was modeled after the renowned Burning Tree Golf Club in Washington, DC, and maintains an exclusive membership of just 300 members.

The inaugural 300 Club Trophy competition in 1968 saw five-time Club Champion Lee Tak Suan claim victory. This year’s tournament followed the Stableford format, played over 18 holes on the Old Course.

Liew Kim Seng made an early impact with an impressive 23 points on the front nine, closely followed by James Yeoh with 22 points and Kelvin Xie with 21 points. However, in an exciting comeback on the back nine, Kelvin Xie surged ahead, scoring 22 points and securing the overall victory with a total of 43 points. Casey Ng claimed the runner-up position with 41 points on countback (OCB).

Kelvin Xie, this year’s champion, shared: “I became an RSGC member in 2019. My family plays and spends time at RSGC every day, and we truly love it here. Even though my job requires me to stay in China, I still fly back to KL for weekend golf with my kids every month. I hope my kids can achieve something in golf. Thank you.”

Congratulations to all the participants and especially to Kelvin Xie for an outstanding performance!
