On November 9, 2024, team of 28 golfers from RSGC, led by Captain Raymond Yeoh, took on Hong Kong Golf Club’s team in this year’s Dragon Kris Bowl Trophy. Hosted at HKGC’s Eden Course, the Fourball Betterball match brought together 56 players from RSGC and HKGC, with HKGC’s Captain Andy Kwok leading their side.

The day began early, with a generous breakfast spread served at HKGC’s poolside dining room. Players fueled up on Chinese chicken porridge with condiments, fresh fruit, yogurt muesli, orange juice, coffee, and tea—perfect for a full day on the course. Despite some light rain and a Standby Signal No. 1 tropical cyclone warning, everyone was ready for the 8:30 AM shotgun start from the Blue Tees.

Excitement peaked at the novelty prize holes: Nearest to the Pin on the 17th and Longest Drive on the 4th fairway. Congratulations to RSGC’s Wilson Lian and Justin Heah, who brought home the novelty prizes for RSGC side!

After the match, players gathered for a prize presentation luncheon featuring a delicious menu of poached chicken with soy sauce, braised oxtail in red wine sauce, pan-fried halibut fillet with pommery and whisky sauce, e-fu noodles, spicy fried prawns, and more. Fortunately, the stronger Signal No. 3 tropical cyclone warning held off until after the luncheon, allowing for an uninterrupted day of play—talk about perfect timing!

During the presentation, both captains took the stage for brief speeches. HKGC Captain Andy Kwok spoke first, expressing his gratitude to the RSGC team for making the journey and joining in this Interport Match. He highlighted the camaraderie shared between both clubs and the spirit of sportsmanship that marked the day. RSGC Captain Raymond Yeoh followed, echoing Captain Andy’s sentiment and sharing his appreciation for the warm welcome and the memorable experience of playing together. He thanked HKGC for their hospitality, noting how events like these strengthen the bonds between our clubs and create lasting friendships. Though RSGC didn’t claim the Dragon Kris Bowl Trophy for away game this year, our team returned with the best prize of all: lasting friendships and great memories with the HKGC players.

Even though the Dragon Kris Bowl Trophy is a one-day Interport Match, our members also took the opportunity to play at other reciprocal clubs in Hong Kong, including Discovery Bay Golf Club and our affiliated club, The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club. I personally had the pleasure of visiting Discovery Bay Golf Club—a stunning course accessible only by ferry from Central Pier 3 or by bus from DB North Plaza, as private vehicles are not permitted in Discovery Bay. Upon arrival, a complimentary shuttle bus from DB Plaza Bus Terminus conveniently transports you directly to the golf club, adding an extra layer of ease to this uniquely scenic golfing experience. Several members who visited The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club shared that they found it to be a beautiful and scenic course, making their golfing experience in Hong Kong truly memorable. With stunning coastal views of the South China Sea, the course offers both natural beauty and a great challenge for golfers.

Our sincere thanks to HKGC for offering tee-off times to our members on their New Course the following day, providing yet another opportunity to enjoy the exceptional hospitality and beautiful courses of Hong Kong Golf Club. Lastly, congratulations to Shen Bin for his Hole-in-One achievement while golfing at Deep Water Bay, HKGC during his golfing round at Hong Kong! A heartfelt thank you to HKGC for their exceptional hospitality, and here’s to seeing everyone back on the course next year!

Member Moments:
HKGC vs RSGC This was my first Interport game against HKGC, but certainly not my last. The experience was truly enjoyable, and our hosts set a high standard of hospitality that’s tough to match (let’s leave their performance on the course aside!). We had memorable round at Discovery Bay Golf Club for Toh HS, Kelvin Xie, KS Lim, and me. We had a blast, sharing jokes until we were playing the final hole in the dark! Along the way, we also caught up with RSGC members we don’t usually see on home turf. All in all, it was another successful away Interport game, and we look forward to more in the future.

The game at HKGC was my maiden Interport Game representing RSGC. My ground-breaking experience started with congregation of our team at the registration counter and changing room where I had the opportunity of getting to know better fellow RSGC members whom I met frequently at RSGC but only exchanged casual greetings. At breakfast I met members of our opposing team and broke the ice with them over a sumptuous buffet spread. The group photograph session after that had generated laughter which helped me ease tension before the game. My partner and I faced a strong challenge in during our game. Our opponents gave us little leeway and led us most of the way. At the second last hole, we manged to bring the match back to all square. In our “last hole decides” our opponents fought from disadvantaged positions, and the match was squared. It was disappointing, but it is a fair result. I enjoyed most the prize giving lunch, where we had generous offering of food and drinks, fun in the banter between the two Captains during their speeches, and merriment with our fellow members and our hosts. Overall, it was an event to cherish that, except for the result, I will remember for a long time.

So grateful to play 4 rounds of golf in my opinion among the best courses… thank you RSGC
