A Continuing Exchange with Nara International Golf Club

Nara International Golf Club (NIGC) traces its origins to the post war period, when Nara was designated an International Cultural Tourism City in 1950. Established through the combined efforts of the local community, business leaders and government bodies, the Club officially opened in 1957. Designed by renowned architect Osamu Ueda, the course reflects both character and imagination, set against the natural beauty and historic landscape of the ancient capital.

RSGC hosted 18 members from NIGC, with 11 men and 7 ladies, from 27 to 28 January 2026 for a two-day interclub programme held on the Old Course.

The reciprocal relationship between both clubs was formalised on 24 November 2015, with the agreement signed by Past Captain Wong Lee Ming, Past President Yong Poh Kon and NIGC President Okahashi. The introduction was made earlier in December 2013 by RSGC Member Joji Matsu, and the first friendly match followed shortly after, marking the beginning of a valued annual exchange.

The programme commenced on Tuesday, 27 January 2026 with a practice round. NIGC members arrived in the early morning and were received with a running breakfast at The Green, followed by a group photo session at the Golfers Terrace. Play began at 8.04 am with a two tee start on the Old Course (1st Old / 2nd Old), before concluding with lunch at the Green.

The Team Match Play took place the following day on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, played in the Four Ball Better Ball format over the same course layout. The NIGC team was led by Captain Kobayashi Jiro, while RSGC was represented by Team Captain Ezani Abu Bakar, Golf Convenor. The matches were played in good spirit, reflecting the strong and friendly relationship between both clubs. The event concluded with a lunch and prize presentation ceremony at the Green.

Special thanks are extended to the RSGC Ladies Members for accommodating the visiting ladies from NIGC and ensuring they were well hosted throughout their visit.

At the end of the match, RSGC secured the win with a total of 6 points against NIGC’s 4 points.

RSGC looks forward to welcoming Nara International Golf Club again next year, as the friendship and ongoing exchange between both clubs continue to grow. These visits remain an important part of the Club’s interclub calendar, bringing members together through shared competition and camaraderie.
