6th KLK Premier Inter Club Tennis League KL 2026, The Royal Selangor Golf Club vs Royal Lake Club Blues

The Royal Selangor Golf Club welcomed defending champions Royal Lake Club Blues to the Club on Saturday, 6 June 2026 for an eagerly anticipated interclub tennis fixture.

Players and supporters gathered at the Poolside Pavilion from 2.15 pm for refreshments and fellowship ahead of the afternoon’s matches. While Royal Lake Club Blues arrived as favourites on paper, the home team were determined to mount a strong challenge.

 

There was considerable interest surrounding the team selection, with Team Captain Poh Lean keeping the line-up under wraps until the final moments. Anticipation was heightened by the presence of current national player Koay Hao Sheng in the visitors’ ranks.

Following the customary team photograph, play commenced across all categories, accompanied by enthusiastic support from both clubs.

In the Men’s Open, Ishan and Zachary faced Koay Hao Sheng and Chia Yong Wei. The match also featured the rare sight of family members competing on opposite sides, adding an extra dimension to the contest. Despite a spirited effort from the RSGC pair, the visitors proved too strong, securing an 8–1 victory.

The Men’s Above 90 category saw Vuitton Pang and Poh Lean take on Souren Norendra and Paul Poh. Both teams displayed impressive power, court coverage and shot-making throughout the encounter. Although the home pair battled hard, the visitors prevailed 8–2.

One of the standout matches of the day unfolded in the Men’s Above 110 Combined category, where Hee Keat and Sek Wee pushed Azhar and Shahizan all the way to a tie-break. The closely contested affair featured numerous rallies and remarkable shot exchanges, keeping spectators engaged until the very end.

In the Mixed Doubles, sibling combination Melissa and Derrick Kong met the experienced pairing of Kam Ka Vhei and Hui Ming. The match showcased excellent teamwork and resilience from both sides. Despite their determined effort, the RSGC duo fell 8–3.

The Women’s Doubles saw Gaby and Lilian take on Shiew Fern and Katelyn. The visitors capitalised on key opportunities and maintained their consistency throughout the match to record an 8–3 win.

Following the conclusion of play, Members and guests gathered at the Poolside Terrace for an evening of fellowship and hospitality. The visiting team expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Club and were particularly impressed by the ongoing developments taking place under the RSGC Sports Community Project.

Although the overall result did not favour the home side, the afternoon was a celebration of friendly competition, sportsmanship and the enduring spirit of interclub camaraderie.

The team will next travel to Raintree Club Kuala Lumpur on 20 June 2026, where they will look to return to winning ways.
