The Newboult Cup 2026 concluded on 14 June 2026, marking another memorable edition of one of the RSGC Ladies Golf Section’s most prestigious and longstanding match play championships. This year’s competition featured 16 pairs contesting four rounds in the Foursomes Match Play format, where success depended not only on golfing ability but also on teamwork, communication and trust between partners.

Hiroko Suzuki and Chizuko Hirata enjoyed an impressive journey to the title. They opened their campaign with a victory over Ainon Aznam and Pauziah Abdul Kadir before defeating Zuraidah Ismail and Rosie Dewal in the quarter-finals. Another composed performance saw the pair overcome Mari Yasumoto and Asako Suehiro in the semi-finals to secure their place in the championship match.

Awaiting them in the final were Jocelyn Ng and Tan Ai-Leen, who also impressed throughout the competition. Their route to the final included victories over Low Yun Ting and Rika Lai, Yasmin Yusuff and Dorothy Ng, and Fauziah Badry and Liow Foong Kwan, setting up a well-deserved contest between the tournament’s two outstanding pairs.

In the final, Hiroko and Chizuko completed their remarkable campaign to lift the Newboult Cup 2026. Reflecting on the victory, Hiroko shared what the achievement meant to her.

“I am honoured to have won the Newboult Cup with Chizuko. Her support and encouragement throughout the competition made this victory possible. I am truly grateful to her, and I look forward to continuing to enjoy golf and creating more wonderful memories together.”

For Chizuko, the victory was especially meaningful after partnering Hiroko on several occasions over the years.

“After partnering with Hiroko several times, we finally did it! I am so happy we won together.”
