The Royal Selangor Golf Club vs Kelab Shah Alam Selangor
The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) hosted Kelab Shah Alam Selangor (KSAS) on Saturday, 4 July 2026, with valuable points at stake. The winning team would gain a significant advantage in the pursuit of the elusive semi-final spot. The tie got off to a heated start when a couple of the visiting players did not arrive until 4.30pm.
The first three Men’s Doubles matches were supposed to start at 3.30pm but were delayed until 3.45pm. Yeo Sek Wee and Ling Hee Keat secured the first tie when Sasee and Kamaruzaman conceded a walkover. KSAS players disputed the decision and protested. Thankfully, the rest of the matches resumed soon after.
On Court 5, Sean Szeto and Nicholas Kong took on current Malaysian Davis Cup player Naufal Siddiq and Syafiq. All four players produced scintillating strokes and aggressive winners, much to the delight of the spectators. Despite a gallant effort, Sean and Nicholas lost the match 4–8.
At the same time, Derrick Kong and Hazuan Hizan comfortably defeated the KSAS duo of Shah and Syukor 8–0. The RSGC pair displayed great athleticism and outstanding shot-making. RSGC took a 2–1 lead with the victory, and the crowd was rooting for Kam Su-Shuin and Ken Tay to seal the win in the Mixed Doubles.
The match on Court 7 was fiercely contested, with several close calls and disputed decisions adding to the intensity of the encounter. Despite a determined effort from Kam Su-Shuin and Ken Tay, RSGC eventually went down 3–8, setting up a thrilling finale.
With the tie level at 2–2, it all came down to the final match. RSGC Captain Gaby Los Santos partnered Chia Li Shyan against the hardworking duo of Myra and Wani. The match got off to a good start, with the home team taking an unassailable lead. The visiting pair fought back, but the experienced Gaby and Li Shyan held their nerve to win 8–5. It was incredible to watch how they approached the game despite being under pressure. The match had everything—aces, volleys, smashes, lobs, backspin and drop shots. It was a remarkable victory, especially with both teams occupying second and third place respectively behind Royal Lake Club Blues.
Our sincere thanks go to Captain Gaby for preparing delicious spaghetti and pasta for everyone. The fellowship continued at the Poolside Pavilion until 7.30pm. The next away tie will be against Tropicana Golf & Country Resort on Saturday, 18 July 2026.
