Sometimes, the best partnerships are the ones you never expected. When Low Yun Ting and Doka Suzuki entered the Chua Boon Guan Trophy 2026, better known as the Ladies’ B.G. Cup, they had never played together before. With no particular expectations, the two simply teamed up and took on the challenge one match at a time.
Their first match was against Lai Set Fah and Yasmin Yusuff. From there, Ting and Doka progressed through the competition before facing their biggest test in the quarter-finals. With just three holes to play, they found themselves 3 down.
Refusing to give up, the pair fought back to win all three holes and take the match to sudden death at Hole 1.
They then went on to defeat Lilian Liew and Stella Chau 3&2 in the semi-finals to book their place in the final.
On the other side of the draw, Hiroko Suzuki and Chizuko Hirata had also battled their way through to the final. Their campaign began against Fauziah Badry and Alyah Tan before they progressed through the rounds to set up a meeting with Ting and Doka.
The final was a particularly special one for Doka, who would be playing against her mother, Hiroko, and her godmother, Chizuko — both past B.G. Cup winners. For Doka, having the opportunity to play against her godmother before she returns to Japan for good made the occasion even more meaningful.
“I was so glad to play with my godmother before she’s returning to Japan for good.”
Ting and Doka went 3 up with three holes to play and, this time, made sure to finish the job, winning the match 3&2 to become the 2026 Ladies’ B.G. Cup Champions. Looking back, Ting and Doka shared what made their unexpected partnership work so well:
“With no expectations and never having played together before, we somehow found the perfect partnership. We simply had each other’s backs, stepping up whenever the other faltered. What a team, what a fight, and what a memorable BG Cup!”
Hole 16 became their magic hole, and from their incredible fightback in the quarter-finals to lifting the Trophy together, Ting and Doka certainly found the perfect partnership at the right time.
Congratulations to Low Yun Ting and Doka Suzuki on becoming the 2026 Ladies’ B.G. Cup Champions! Well done as well to Hiroko Suzuki and Chizuko Hirata on reaching the final, and to all the ladies who took part and made this year’s competition another memorable one.
