RSGC Chinese New Year Open House 2024

It’s Lunar New Year, also known as the Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival marked by family reunions, parades, and fireworks. This year, the year of the dragon brings with it auspiciousness and vitality. The dragon, the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac, symbolizes good luck, strength, and health.

RSGC hosted its annual Chinese New Year Open House at the Main Lounge on Friday, 23 February 2024. More than a cultural celebration, this event exemplified the unity of our diverse, multi-ethnic community, gathering to rejoice in the spirit of Chinese New Year. It’s a time when Malaysians from all backgrounds come together, sharing in the festivities, fostering mutual understanding, and strengthening communal bonds.

The Open House, an exclusive event for RSGC members and their families, commenced with a Dragon dance performance, followed by the harmonious melodies of traditional Chinese tunes performed by the Eswest band. The night was further adorned with a Dragon Dance performance by TAR UMT Lion & Dragon Dance Society, captivated the audience with its grace and symbolism.

Dania Lau, an RSGC Member, and her friends from the TAR UMT Lion & Dragon Dance Society mesmerized members with their vibrant Dragon Dance, offering a rare opportunity for guests to capture moments with the mythical creature. The long queue of members eager to take photos with the dragon underscored the excitement and reverence surrounding the Lunar New Year, particularly for those born in the year of the dragon. It’s believed that dragons bring fame and fortune, especially when adorned in the lucky colours of silver and gold.

The event drew 227 members and their families, elegantly dressed in traditional Chinese attire, further enhancing the festive ambiance of the evening.

The buffet menu, offering an array of tantalizing dishes ranging from Asian Cold Potato Salad to Crabmeat & Corn Soup, 5 Spices Crispy Roast Chicken to Steamed Seabass in Superior Sauce, and concluding with Lotus Pancake and Longan Drinks. The tossing of Yee Sang added a symbolic touch to the dining experience, fostering prosperity and good fortune for all.

Derek Daniel, one of our members, had some thoughts about the RSGC Chinese New Year Open House. He really liked how everything was organized – from registration to timing, arrangements, staff, and seating, it all went smoothly. “Well-organised event. Registration, timing, arrangements,

staff, organizing seating etc etc. 5 star. It might be nice to see more smiles and welcoming vibes next time. While the food was good, there just wasn’t quite enough of it, and a bit more variety would be awesome!”

Post-event feedback forms collected valuable insights from attendees, highlighting the seamless organization, smooth registration process, and the engaging entertainment lineup. However, constructive feedback regarding food quality and variety echoed the desire for continuous improvement in future events.

Looking ahead, the RSGC Chinese New Year Open House stands as a beacon of cultural celebration, fostering camaraderie within our community. As we bid farewell to the year of the rabbit and welcome the year of the dragon, may the spirit of unity and tradition continue to thrive, enriching our community with joy, prosperity, and togetherness.
