Captain’s Corner [May 2024]

Dear Members,

After a serene month of Ramadan followed by the joyful festivities of Hari Raya, May has brought renewed excitement to our club with a lineup of golf and sports events. Unfortunately, an earthquake in Taiwan on April 3rd affected our guests from Kanucha Resort Japan, disrupting their planned visit to RSGC for an inaugural friendly game. Out of the 13 confirmed participants, only four were able to make it to RSGC. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this unfortunate event.

The M Ramayah Cup (formerly known as the Annual Caddie Golf Competition), held on April 29th, served as a special event for our dedicated caddies. This cherished tradition has graced our club for seven decades since its inception in the 1950s. The renaming of the trophy was a tribute to the late M Ramayah, the legendary 13-time World Cup golfer, and renowned golf coach who was a caddie at our Club.

In our Sports Section – Get ready for the debut of our inaugural e-gaming tournament featuring Valorant on May 12th. We invite RSGC members passionate about gaming to join ‘Valo-or-not, you and me.’ Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or new to the scene, this event promises an exciting day of 1v1 Valorant battles. Register now to secure your spot and be a part of RSGC’s gaming community.

We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming 9th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Golf Championship (JIGC), scheduled from 14 to 16 May 2024. Annually, RSGC proudly hosts not one, but two prestigious competitions listed as WAGR events. The JIGC, alongside the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open Championship, are recognized as WAGR Counting Events. This recognition underscores our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities for both junior and female golfers to compete on a global stage. We encourage all eligible members to seize this opportunity to compete, learn, and potentially elevate their standing in the world of amateur golf

As the world celebrates Labor Day on May 1st, it’s important to recognize the hard work and dedication of workers everywhere. At RSGC, we deeply appreciate the contributions of our staff. Let’s take this opportunity to express our gratitude and respect for the workers who make our club thrive on this special day.

Happy Clubbing!
