9th RSGC-SportExcel’s Junior Invitational Golf Championship 2024

RSGC and SportExcel (Foundation for Malaysian Sporting Excellence) are collaborating for the second time this year for the 9th RSGC-SPORTEXCEL Junior Invitational Golf Championship 2024. This partnership aims to attract more elite junior players to participate in the prestigious championship at RSGC, providing a platform for young golfers to showcase their talents and gain valuable competitive experience.

The 2024 championship delivered on its promise of a stronger field, drawing 90 talented players from across the globe. Representing countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and South Korea, the diversity of players added to the event’s vibrancy and international appeal. Additionally, the championship is recognised by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), enhancing its prestige. Spanning from 14 to 16 May 2024, with a practice round on 13 May, the tournament provided a platform for players to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.

First Day

The Rookie Awards were given to Joshua Lim for Best Boys under 15 and Ngo Yi Belle for Best Girls under 15, both from Malaysia. In the main prize categories, Jonathan Manuel Wijanto from Indonesia emerged as the boys’ winner with a total score of 215, while Ngo Yi Belle from Malaysia won the girls’ category with a score of 232, securing her victory in a playoff.

Second Day 
 

The girls’ category saw a thrilling competition between Saanvi Somu from India and Ngo Yi Belle, both achieving an impressive score of 232 points, leading to a nerve-wracking playoff. As spectators watched anxiously, the tension was palpable, making it a truly unforgettable moment for all involved. After three playoff rounds, Ngo Yi Belle emerged victorious, showcasing remarkable skill and composure under pressure.

Final Day

RSGC is also proud to announce that the best-finishing Malaysian player in this championship will earn the opportunity to play in a regional golf tournament, with all expenses paid. This initiative provides a remarkable opportunity for our local talented golfers to showcase their skills on a broader stage and represent our nation with pride. The best-finishing Malaysian male was Joshua Lim Zhi Xing, and the bestfinishing Malaysian female was the girl champion and winner of the Rookie Award, Ngo Yi Belle.

Each year, the Junior Invitational Golf Championship grows in prestige and impact, inspiring hope and ambition in the next generation of young golfers. With the latest results now reflected in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), the event power for the boys’ category stands at 43.0226 and for the girls’ category at 61.2309. These impressive rankings underscore the competitive strength and significance of the championship, further enhancing its reputation and the invaluable opportunities it creates for young athletes. This championship not only elevates the standard of junior golf in Malaysia but also provides a crucial platform for young talents to realise their potential and achieve their dreams on an international stage.
