Jonathan Manuel Richanto: Boy Champion of the 9th RSGCSportExcel Junior Invitational Golf Championship 2024

Jonathan Manuel Richanto, the young golf sensation from Ciputra Golf Club in Surabaya, Indonesia, has clinched the title of Boy Champion at the 9th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Golf Championship 2024. In an exclusive interview, Jonathan shared his journey and experiences throughout the tournament.

Jonathan’s journey in the tournament began with a challenging first day, where he scored five over par, placing him in a tie for eighth position. However, his performance on the second day was nothing short of spectacular. Scoring 68, four under par, he secured a sixshot lead. On the third day, Jonathan played it safe, maintaining his lead and finishing with a nine-shot difference from the runner-up.

Reflecting on his experience, Jonathan said, “From the practice round to the final round, it was a hot day with high temperatures, and we were playing on foot. The course quality was excellent, and I felt very comfortable with it. The greens were really nice, in good quality for a tournament. On the first day, I played five over and was tied for eighth position. The second day was surprising and unexpected; I played 68, four under par. After two days, I was in first place, leading by six shots. On the third day, I played it safe, maintaining my lead with a par round. By the end, I had a nine-shot difference from the runner-up.”.

Describing his feelings about the win as “unbelievable and unexpected,” Jonathan did not anticipate winning when he arrived at the tournament. His main goal was to enjoy the game and experience the new course. “Thank God, this is my first international win and my best performance yet this year,” he said.

Despite battling a bad cold and the intense heat, Jonathan’s determination and focus never wavered. “Honestly, this week, I had a bad cold, so I was playing with sickness. But it wasn’t too bad, just some coughing and stuff. The hot weather was challenging, but I managed.”

Expressing his gratitude, Jonathan thanked his father, who accompanied and cared for him throughout the tournament, his coach, friends, and especially his mother. “I want to thank my dad, my coach, my friends, and especially my mom. My dad has been with me for the whole week, taking care of me.”.

This first international win for Jonathan marks a significant milestone in his budding golf career, and it will be exciting to see what the future holds for this young champion
