Lady Golf Captain’s Corner [Feb 2024]

The new year has begun and competitions are in full swing. Not even a week had passed and the KE Cheok and Consolation Cup competitions were played. The KE Cheok Trophy is competed for by all Medal winners of the previous year. Sheryl Long wiped out the field of the club’s top lady golfers with an amazing 65 nett. Well done Sheryl. Meanwhile for the Consolation Cup, May Cheng continued her shining progress with a score of 70 nett. An excellent start to the year.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

We have noticed that the ladies have begun practicing in earnest for our club’s marquee event, the annual Club Championship. The names on the Honours Board for this event include some of our top Lady golfers, some of whom went on to become professional golfers, and some represented our country in international events. To have one’s name among these is a very coveted achievement. For those whose handicap doesn’t quite qualify for the Club Championship, there is the Bronze Championship held concurrently.

The format for Club Morning was Foursomes. The winners were Yasmin and Ziltawati

CLUB MORNING

The first Ladies Club Morning of the year introduced the Foursome format to the Ladies. A nine-hole social game, the Club Morning has been running for as long as I can remember and is an event which brings together new golfers, and new Members. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet not only the Ladies Golf Sub Committee but also to get to know golfers of the same ability whom you may feel more relaxed to play with. We have all had the experience of being nervous when faced with having to play with someone who is a far better golfer than we are! Since the pandemic, we have noticed many more ladies taking up the game, especially the much younger ones. As many of these are working ladies, we have decided to hold a Club Evening on alternate months to cater to working lady members. The first one will be on February 3rd at 3pm. I hope you join us.

Congratulations to Afifah Ariff for passing her golf test, no surprises there as her husband is none other than Alwi Kamaruddin a former golf pro

GOLF TEST

Speaking of new golfers, the LGSC has been kept busy holding golf tests for new players and Members and some of the photos taken after the tests are shared here. I also was very pleased to test, pass and welcome Tengku Puteri Ilisha Ameera, the daughter of His Majesty The Yang Di Pertuan Agong.

Congratulations to Jung A Kim on passing her golf test. Cheow Hui Yee, successful candidate Jung A Kim and tester Low Yun Ting

FIXTURES

The Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Cup competition is next on our Fixtures list, a 2-day matchplay event. The Club and Bronze Championships will take place on February 17th and 18th.

Congratulations Christinne Lim, Mariko Hosaka and Datin Samsinar Bahaman on passing their golf test!
I am so glad that our golf community is growing

LIMITED EDITION BLACK BATIK SHIRTS

We started with the green official second-day shirt, then a version in blue, then a limited edition pink, and finally a limited edition version in black, which has been the most popular so far. The ladies were given a sneak peek of this shirt when it was chosen as our official second-day shirt in our Triangular match at SICC, and now the shirts have arrived. A big thank you to Tunku Puteri Marina, the designer for this extremely popular shirt, much coveted by other club ladies and is almost always sold out. Finally, I am very happy to note the steady growth of the Ladies Golf Section, and even happier to see more and more ladies joining our many events. I have also noted the steady improvement in the standard of ladies’ golf at our club. Let’s keep it going!
