Editor’s note [Sept 2024]

Welcome to the October issue of The Circular and allow me to introduce myself as the magazine’s new editor. Some of you may recognise my by-line in more serious regional outfits and always on topic outside sports and golf. But when the new RSGC committee headed by Captain Raymond Yeoh asked me whether I would apply my media and publishing experience to the club’s magazine, I jumped at the challenge.

Firstly, I would like to thank editorial board members Poh Ying Loo and Farah Suhana Ahmad Sarji, together with Communications and PR teams, comprising Ainie Wahid, Nor Amirah Mahmuddin and Ridzuan Hafidz Ahmad, for warmly welcoming me to the team. I would also like to convey the team’s joint appreciation to Lyn Mak and Razlan Nizaruddin for accepting to join the editorial board.

Our expanded team hopes to deliver fresh excitement in the coming months. The team has already begun discussions on introducing new columns that with connect directly with members, young and old, and also the more ambitious undertaking of revamping and redesigning the magazine. We will be calling for RFPs (request for proposals) from publishing houses in the coming weeks and we would be happy to hear of your suggestions as we embark on this project.

Separately, the editorial board has received feedback that it would nice for The Circular feature articles that will help reacquaint members with the Club’s old traditions and also perhaps to gently lean on the Committee to bring back some cherished customs practices in the past. On this score, too, we would like to hear from members.

Apart from tradition, the other important deliverable set by our committee headed by Captain Yeoh is raising the service standards. As presented in his Captain’s Corner, an overhaul of the governance structure of the club is a high priority. It is a must read.

As this month’s issue will show, the RSGC remains a vibrant venue not just for golf. The already active tennis section is now promoting pickleball, a cross between tennis, badminton and table tennis. The response to a recent get together was very encouraging, especially for pickleball, which is very inclusive in nature because it is ideal for people of all ages and skill levels.

Our team also did well in a recent outing at the Singapore Island and Country Club by winning the Tan Sri Hashim Ali challenge trophy. There is a dispatch about the match and much more in this issue.

The editorial team looks forward to serving you.
