The Carlsberg Golf Classic (CGC) returned to The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) on Sunday, 8th September 2024, and it was a much-anticipated event. Held on the Old Course in a stroke play format, the tournament offered members a fun mix of competitive golf and social enjoyment. The CGC is known for its unique charm, allowing amateur golfers to enjoy their favourite Carlsberg drinks both at the starter hut and off the course. The event this year was played across 32 golf clubs nationwide between June to October, with the aim of crowning 32 winner in the net and gross categories.

At RSGC, the competition was fierce, with 72 players facing the heat for an exciting day of golf. The tournament ran alongside the September ABC Medal and had a full field of players. Registration opened at 6:30 AM in the Banquet Hall, where breakfast was served to start the day. The tee-off began at 7:24 AM with a four-point start, and the day concluded with a lunch and prize presentation at 1:00 PM. Carlsberg was represented by Gary Tan, Sales Director, and Pearl Lai Ming Choo, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Director.
To add some fun to the competition, there were unique activities, including the “Nearest to Bottle” challenge. In this challenge, a replica Carlsberg bottle was placed on a Par 4 hole, and the player whose ball landed closest to it won a special prize. Carlsberg also served beers to players during the game at the starter hut. Additionally, each player received a cooler bag with six cans of Carlsberg Malaysia products and a green CGC T-shirt at registration.
Prizes were plentiful and impressive, including highquality items like TaylorMade golf equipment, adidas gear, Garmin accessories, and even a year’s supply of Carlsberg beers for the lucky winners. Players could also compete for novelty prizes in categories like nearest to the pin, longest drive, and hole-in-one. A lucky draw added more excitement, with various prizes such as golf accessories and cartons of Carlsberg beers.
In the end, RSGC’s Casey Ng won the Gross Category with a score of 78, while John Ang claimed the Nett Category title with a score of 68.
Congratulations to all the winners!
