The long-standing Interport tradition between The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) and the Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC) continued on 23–24 May 2026 as RSGC welcomed 34 members from RBSC for the annual Erawan and Seladang Cup matches.
Dating back to 1961, the Interport was first proposed by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. The inaugural match was played at RBSC for the Erawan Cup, where players competed off the stick. In 1967, then RSGC Captain Alan Jones introduced the Seladang Cup, allowing higherhandicap players to participate through a handicap format. More than six decades later, the annual fixture remains one of the most cherished international traditions shared between the two clubs.
This year’s home fixture saw a total of 47 RSGC Members participate across the two days under the leadership of Team Captain Ezani Abu Bakar on the opening day and Team Captain Justin Ong on Day Two. RSGC was pleased to welcome 34 members from RBSC, led by Captain Rattachat Mongkol Navin.
The programme commenced on Saturday, 23 May 2026, with Members from both clubs gathering for lunch before proceeding to the Old Course for the opening round of competition. Unfortunately, persistent rain and lightning resulted in play being suspended and eventually abandoned for the day. Nevertheless, the weather did little to dampen spirits, and several players returned to the course to enjoy social golf once the siren was lifted.
The decisive matches therefore took place on Sunday, 24 May 2026. Players gathered early in the morning before heading to the Old Course for the Erawan Cup Singles Match Play and Seladang Cup Four Ball Better Ball Match Play.
performance to retain both trophies on home soil. In the Erawan Cup, RSGC secured victory with 11 points to RBSC’s five. The Club continued its strong showing in the Seladang Cup, recording a convincing 15 points to seven and completing a clean sweep of both trophies.
As always, the Interport was about more than the results. The weekend provided another opportunity for Members of both clubs to renew friendships, share stories and enjoy the camaraderie that has been the foundation of this annual exchange for more than six decades.
A special thank you goes to all RSGC Members who supported the Club by participating in this year’s home fixture. Special appreciation is also extended to those who answered the call to represent RSGC at short notice. Their willingness to step forward, together with the enthusiasm shown by all participants, reflects the strong spirit that continues to make these Interport matches so special.
Beyond the trophies and scorecards, it was a pleasure to once again welcome our friends from RBSC to Kuala Lumpur. The Erawan and Seladang Cups have always been about much more than golf, bringing together generations of Members through friendship, sportsmanship and shared memories. Following the home fixture, RSGC Members travelled to Bangkok for the return match on 27–28 June 2026, continuing another chapter of this historic Interport.
Congratulations to Team RSGC on retaining both trophies on home soil, and thank you to both clubs for keeping this special tradition alive for more than six decades.
