Lady Golf Captain’s Corner [Jan 2025]

With barely time to take a breath after a jam-packed 2024, we have arrived in 2025 ready for another year of fun, friendship and great golf. Highlights of 2024 included our world ranked Ladies Amateur Open (LAO), hosting the Triangular, and a record-breaking number of new Lady golfers. I am also grateful for the growing number of entries in both our social games and competitions. Our Ladies definitely love their golf.

Congratulations Roshidah Hashim on passing your golf test. We look forward to see you at our club mornings

Congratulations to Ramya Bharath and Rizuko Yamaoka on passing their golf test

But of course, it is far more than just playing golf. Through our Monthly Club Mornings, ladies make new friends, learn more about the game and its rules, and are reminded of our RSGC golf etiquette. Participating and travelling to our reciprocal clubs introduce new faces and give our ladies the excitement (and sometimes frustration) of playing on different courses. The competitiveness comes in by taking part in our monthly Medals and our many historical Trophy games. We have enjoyed watching both new golfers climb up the leader boards and past Champions reclaim the winner’s Trophies. And of course, we are beyond proud to see our 2023 LAO Champion Mirabel Ting now ranked 5th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Perhaps this will be the year for her to reach the top of the list.

Firm friendships are built among the Ladies on the course and this month we said goodbye to one of our more popular ladies Shakira Eshimova Ratha Wong as she moved on to the USA. Friends held a farewell game and lunch to bid her farewell. Our Japanese ladies did the same to wish Mariko Hosaka a safe return to Japan. Over the years many strong friendships have been formed and even after the ladies’ return to their home countries, they are still in contact and friends made at RSGC have even travelled to visit them.

November was a relatively quiet month with wet weather badly affecting our outings on the course. Our final social game of the year was our annual YearEnd Game. Normally there is a Christmas theme but this year we decided to ‘Go Green or Go Home’, encouraging our Ladies to get creative with environmentally conscious costumes. They certainly did well as the photos show. The Ladies were also challenged with a restriction to three clubs and a putter. Celebrations culminated in a delicious 3 course lunch in a beautiful seasonally decorated Banquet Hall. Thank you to the Ladies for their hard work.

Last one of the year!

As the new year begins excitement will build looking forward to our Club Championship and the KE Cheok Cup which is battled out by the previous year’s Monthly Medal winners.

On behalf of the LGSC, I wish everyone a wonderful year ahead. May you score lots of pars and birdies and may your handicap go up to the next Division!
