It was a very busy February for us with the annual Club and Bronze Championships. After the month of Ramadhan we look forward to the Queen Elizabeth II Trophy competition and our annual battle with our Southern reciprocal club, SICC. This year both home and away games will be played in less than a month. Members of our Ladies Golf Section may have been surprised when reading this year’s Fixtures Calendar to discover that the Lady golfers do not seem to have as many playing days as we had last year. In fact entries for Ladies golf events in the Calendar have been reduced from 66 playing days in 2024 to only 33 in 2025. The Club made a decision to remove half of our longstanding traditional monthly Club Morning games to only bimonthly, meaning once every 2 months. The Ladies will also have to arrange matchplay competitions ourselves and will no longer be assisted by the Sports Department, which explains the lack of entries in the Calendar. It will definitely take some getting used to, not to mention very early mornings by the Ladies to make sure we get our competition tee times.
Club and Bronze Championships
Our Champions have been crowned! 8 of our top Lady golfers battled it out for the Ladies Club Championship while 20 Ladies fought for The Bronze Trophy. After weeks of hard practice, over a very hot and tough weekend, with only 1 player returning a Nett under score, my congratulations go to 12-yearold Sim Jane for defending her Club Champion title with a Gross score of 159, with Dorothy Ng coming in second with 163 and the only player who returned a nett score in red. Congratulations to Madoka Ouchi our Bronze Champion with a Gross score of 193, with Kanae Yutani finishing second with 196. Kanae also won Best Nett. As you can, see the scores were close!
Rules Session
Instead of our usual Club Morning 9 holes game, the Ladies had a very enjoyable and informative Rules Session led by referees Dennis Mah and Michael Chin. Instructions to bring their umbrellas were very useful, as they sweated it out learning important rules and received tips on options of play when their balls get into trouble. Knowledge of golf rules are of course a crucial part of the game, not only for competition play but also to ensure pace of play and the correct scores are returned. We intend to hold more sessions like these throughout the year, so please do watch out for the notices.
Golf Tests
Recently I am very pleased to note more and more new Lady golfers joining us. Congratulations and welcome to Kelly Ong and Gwen Lim.
Next month the current Ladies Golf Section Sub-Committee will retire at our LGS annual meeting. It has been an interesting and lively year for us and we look forward to welcoming a new LGSC. Do consider volunteering to be part of this committee which looks after the RSGC Ladies Golf Section. It’s definitely a good learning experience and with the changes in our competition procedures and the upcoming golf course renovation, it will be pretty interesting too. Plus you will get to be part of the planning for our trip to Hong Kong for our Ladies Triangular in October.
