RSGC Wins the Dato’ Musa Hitam Challenge Trophy!

What a weekend of golf it was! The Interclub Match between The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) and Kelab Golf Negara Subang (KGNS) took place on 23-24 November 2024, with both clubs battling it out for the Dato’ Musa Hitam Challenge Trophy. This popular event has been a favorite since it began in 1982, and it didn’t disappoint this year either!

The trophy, first won by RSGC in 1982, is contested in a home-andaway format. This year’s matches saw 50 players from each club— an increase from the usual 40— showing just how much everyone wanted to be part of the action.

Day 1: RSGC Takes a Big Lead

Saturday’s game was hosted by RSGC on the Old Course. The format was four ball best ball match play, where each pair competed for points: two points for a win and one point each for a draw. The RSGC team, led by Captain Raymond Yeoh, faced off against the KGNS team, headed by Captain Lee Say Yong.

The day started with breakfast and a group photo on the putting green before the players headed out for their matches. After an intense golf game, everyone gathered for a prize presentation lunch in the Banquet Hall. Captain Raymond thanked all the players and wished them good luck for the next day’s match at KGNS. By the end of the day, RSGC was in the lead with 34 points, while KGNS scored 16—a strong 18-point advantage for the home team.

Day 2: KGNS Fights Back

Sunday morning came early at KGNS, with players arriving for breakfast and registration at the Golfer’s Terrace as early as 6:30 AM. The match was held on the Putra Course, with a new twist: the format was fourball best ball Stableford, and players teed off from the “easy blue” tees.

This time, RSGC was led by Dilsher Singh, the Golf and Caddies Convenor. The shotgun start at 7:45 AM saw another exciting day of golf match, as KGNS worked hard to close the gap.

After the matches, players enjoyed a prize presentation lunch at the Dewan Presiden. KGNS scored 31 points to RSGC’s 19, but despite their efforts, the 18-point lead from Day 1 secured RSGC’s overall win. With a final score of 53-47, RSGC proudly retained the Dato’ Musa Hitam Challenge Trophy.
