Lady Golf Captain’s Corner [Feb 2025]

The Club Morning Ladies

The year traditionally begins with a bang for RSGC golfers and 2025 is no exception. This is when the Club Championships kick off with the Seniors and Juniors. Then comes the main Club Championship battle which goes into matchplay rounds until the final day, the 22nd of February, which is when the 2-day Ladies Club Championship and Bronze Championships take place.

KE CHEOK/CONSOLATION CUPS

We were only in our fifth day of the New Year when the first Ladies Trophy event of 2025 was held – the Ladies KE Cheok Cup and the Consolation Cup tournaments. The KE Cheok competition pits all the Monthly Medal winners of the previous year against each other to produce the Champion of Champions, while the Consolation Cup is open to all those who did not win a Medal. It was a fierce fight for the KE Cheok with some low scores but eventually Asako Suehiro with a score of 69 nett took the Trophy, with runner-up Kanae Yutani scoring 73 nett while Wong Ai-Dee won Best Gross with a score of 84. Low scores were also returned for the Consolation Cup with winner Rosa Shin and runner-up Rika Lai both scoring nett under, Rosa with 69 and Rika with 70. Lai Set Fah won Best Gross with a score of 90. I must commend the Ladies for surviving the scorching heat on that day.

Congratulations to Wu Yuejian and Li Lili on passing their golf test

CLUB MORNING

After a sweltering debilitatingly hot Trophy Game the weather changed completely 2 days later when 18 Ladies turned up for Club Morning with non stop rain from the night before. After waiting some time for the rain to stop, some of the ladies decided to brave the drizzle, bunkers which had turned into ponds and squelchy rough. Happily the weather cleared and it was most pleasant golf weather for all.

After our Club Championship, it will soon be the month of Ramadhan and we will only have our Club Morning and Monthly Medal games. It will be April before our next Trophy Game, the Puan Sri Lee Eng Lin Trophy. We then expect our golf course renovations to begin and that will mean a reorganisation or cancellation of some of our events

We have decided that in order to qualify for all our Trophy games, Ladies will have to have played at least 2 Monthly Medals over the preceding 12 months. So I encourage the Ladies to keep on playing, practicing and improve your game. For our new golfers and Members, do sign up for our Club Mornings to meet other lady golfers, learn about the different game formats and our RSGC golf etiquette rules too.

I look forward to more RSGC Ladies joining our games and next month we will be able to congratulate our new RSGC Ladies Club Champion!

Have a good game! If you wish to play a trophy event, you need to have played 2 medals over the preceding 12 months.
