Dear members, We’ve had a very active month. The annual Club Championship is in its final stage and the RSGC held its maiden chess competition. There was also the Berrington Cup, which was won by Toh Hock Siew.
It was in 1894, a year after what was then known as the SGC held its inaugural meeting, that the Berrington Gold Medal was instituted, together with the club championship and the monthly medal events.
At the time, these events were dominated by brothers, Clem and John Glassford, together with A.T.D Berrington, the originator of the Berrington Gold Medal, who served as chief magistrate at the time. He was not only a top-notch golfer, the dapper Berrington was also brilliant at billiards.
As part of our plans to revamp The Circular, we hope to introduce articles that provide historical context for events as they come up in the coming months.
On a separate note, the Editorial Sub-Committee promises to address all letters from members in a transparent manner.
While the decision to publish any correspondence will be decided on a caseby-case basis, please be assured that your letters will be directed immediately to The Committee and all suggestions will be appropriately addressed. So, please keep your suggestions, recommendations and positive criticisms coming. We look forward to the opportunity to engage.
And finally, as we head into the holy Muslim fasting month, we wish all our Members Ramadan Kareem.
Editor of the month
