Strong Start at Home: RSGC Wins Erawan and Seladang Cups Against RBSC

On the 3rd and 4th May 2025, RSGC had the honour of hosting the Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC) for the much-anticipated annual Interport match. Our team of 43 RSGC members welcomed 34 RBSC players to the Old Course for two days of exciting friendly competition.

The RSGC-RBSC Interport event was initiated in 1961 by our Nation’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. The inaugural match was held at RBSC for the Erawan Cup, where players competed on gross score match play format, otherwise referred to as “off the stick.

Later in 1967, RSGC Captain Alan Jones introduced the Seladang Cup, where players compete on handicap-adjusted net score match play format, thereby increasing the field of players to include higher handicappers. This long-standing rivalry continues to be a highlight of the golfing calendar for both clubs.

The weekend kicked off with the first round of matches on Saturday afternoon, following a warm welcome and a running lunch featuring local favourites like fish ball noodle soup and chicken rice. The delicious spread was the perfect fuel for the battles ahead on the course.

Sunday morning started with a traditional Malaysian breakfast including nasi lemak and roti canai, providing the players with energy and focus for the final round of matches on the Old Course.

Throughout the weekend, players vied not only for overall victory but also for special prizes awarded for nearest to the pin and nearest to the line on selected holes, adding extra thrills to the competition.

In the end, the RSGC team delivered a strong performance, keeping the Erawan Cup (off the stick) with a score of 13 points to 5, and the Seladang Cup (handicap event) with a decisive 41 points to 15 over RBSC. It was a proud result and a testament to the skill and spirit of our players.

More than just a competition, the Interport match was an opportunity to strengthen friendships and enjoy the sport we all love. We extend our gratitude to our RBSC friends for their great sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the weekend.

Looking ahead, the RSGC team will travel to Bangkok on 14–15 June 2025 for the return leg of this longstanding interport tradition. We wish our players the best and look forward to continuing this tradition of friendly yet keenly contested competition.
