We Did It Again – RSGC Retains the Tan Sri Hashim Ali Trophy in Singapore!

After hosting Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) at home in April, it was time for the RSGC team to travel south for the return leg of the Interport match. On 10–11 May 2025, a strong contingent of 52 members—42 men and 10 ladies— made their way to Singapore, led by Club Captain Raymond Yeoh.

The earlier match in Kuala Lumpur had set the tone for a competitive rivalry. RSGC drew the Tan Sri Hashim Ali Trophy (Men’s Off-the-Stick), secured a convincing 31–7 win in the Dato’ Loke Wan Tho Memorial Trophy (Men’s Handicap), and took the ladies’ match for the C.C. Tan / Leong Hoe Yeng Challenge Trophy with a score of 13–7.

In Singapore, the weekend kicked off with an afternoon round on the New Course (Millennium/ Peirce) on Saturday. Before teeoff, the RSGC team enjoyed lunch at the Island Swimming Pool Café, featuring a spread of Ee Fu noodles, sweet and sour grouper, soy-braised chicken, bok choy, old cucumber soup, and pandan cake. Although heavy rain eventually brought the round to a halt, the camaraderie remained strong.

That evening, SICC hosted a welcome dinner. The buffet featured soto, Hainanese chicken chop, USDA ribeye steak, grilled vegetables, ang ku kueh, gado-gado, and rojak—an enjoyable evening of good food and warm fellowship between both clubs.

On Sunday morning, play resumed at the Bukit Course under perfect golfing conditions. The RSGC team rose to the occasion and delivered an outstanding performance, retaining the Tan Sri Hashim Ali Trophy with a dominant 8–2 victory. Securing the win on away ground made the result even more meaningful —this marks the second year in a row that RSGC has clinched the trophy in Singapore, a proud achievement for the team.

SICC rallied strongly in the Dato’ Loke Wan Tho Trophy, edging out RSGC with a score of 18–12. The ladies’ match was closely contested and ended in a 5–5 draw for the C.C. Tan / Leong Hoe Yeng Trophy—a fair outcome reflecting the quality and sportsmanship on both sides.

As always, the Interport was more than just a contest—it was a celebration of the long-standing friendship between the two clubs. Off the course, bonds were strengthened through shared meals, stories, and a mutual love for the game.

RSGC extends its sincere thanks to SICC for their warm hospitality and memorable hosting. And a big thank you goes to the 52 RSGC members who represented the Club with pride, spirit, and sportsmanship. The team now looks forward to welcoming SICC to Kuala Lumpur next year for the next chapter in this cherished rivalry.
