A total of 65 juniors teed it up this year — 33 Malaysians and 32 international players — representing Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. Many were national-level juniors, with strong regional credentials and a hunger to prove themselves on Malaysian soil.
This year’s field was split into boys and girls divisions. After two competitive rounds, only the top 30 boys and top 12 girls advanced to the final round. Singapore’s Amelie Ng stole the spotlight, not only winning the Girls’ Championship, but also claiming Best Girl Under-15. Malaysia’s Joshua Lim emerged as Boys’ Champion, while Kang Geon of South Korea took home the Best Boy Under-15 prize.
The tournament is more than just a standalone event. Thanks to RSGC’s long-standing collaboration with SportExcel and the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA), the championship also serves as a launchpad for promising local juniors to step onto the international stage.
As part of a continued pathway initiative, the best finishing Malaysian boy and girl in the Under-18 category earned selection to represent Malaysia at the Singha Thailand Junior World Championship 2025. This year’s honourees are Joshua Lim and Nik Alicia Miriam Kamil. Meanwhile, the top finishing Malaysian Under-15 boy and girl, Muhammad Afham Othman and Jamie Tan, will compete at the Jakarta Golf Club Junior Championship 2025. All four players will have their travel and accommodation fully sponsored — a valuable opportunity that signals Malaysia’s growing emphasis on junior golf excellence.
RSGC also thanks The 48th RSGC Ladies Amateur Open Championship (LAO) 2025 Organising Committee for kindly offering free entry and caddies to the top three girls from this tournament for the upcoming LAO competition in August. Ten editions in, and the RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational continues to deliver on its founding promise: to give young golfers not just a tournament, but a pathway.
Parents’ Insight – JIGC 2025
“As a parent of Nathaniel Lee Hsu, I’d like to take a moment to thank the organisers, RSGC, SportExcel and anyone involved in making this event so special.
The course was set up tough but fair. The registration for event and practice rounds ran smoother than most we have experienced from Asia to the Americas. Spotters and caddies helped those who needed it.
Thank you all and the event for treating my child and other players with respect and be so encouraging of their efforts. Like a pro event, the players had excellent practice facilities, were kept fed and hydrated with care.” – Lee Darwin, parent of Nathaniel Lee Hsu
Just to say a few things. Congrats to the organizer, the referees, the club volunteer and even the forecaddie. In many tournaments that I have been part of (as a parent), this is the best team of fore caddies. The forecaddies helped each other. They look out for balls at the adjacent holes too. In fact, one went further to mark (identify) the players for their driving distances over water on day 1, so that they know where to turn their sight to. Hole 15. – Suzearitz Suhimi, parent of Ezekiel.
