Captain’s Corner [August 2025]

So much to do, and so little time to get it all done. Following our recent AGM in late June, the Committee has been refreshed with new members, including familiar faces like Eddy Chen, Wan Din, and Ally Azwin. We also welcome two first timers, Rudy Foo and Jonathan Bong, who have kindly stepped up to serve as new blood in our 10-member RSGC Committee.

Without exception, everyone has their work cut out for them. The pipeline of tasks spans every portfolio, with some requiring serious heavy lifting on top of the usual unexpected issues and the day-to-day responsibilities of keeping the club running smoothly.

Rudy, our new Governance & Compliance Convenor, is already tackling a growing list of regulatory concerns, including SSM requirements for Companies Limited by Guarantee. He will also be working with outside advisors to compile a Regulatory Inventory, a comprehensive list of laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting the club, to ensure we meet all obligations. Eugene Khoo, Finance & Properties Convenor, will collaborate closely to integrate SSM rental property requirements into our SOPs and help ratify past actions if required.

Jonathan, holding the Admin, HR and IT portfolio, will focus on staff training, covering technical skills, our code of conduct, whistleblowing policies, and Health and Safety. He will also review KPIs to align staff performance with the club’s interests, optimize member facing IT systems, and establish a systematically indexed document warehouse for the club.

Wan Din, Facilities and Projects Convenor, has a packed agenda: a rooftop solar facility to cut utility costs and address power constraints, upgrades to our Tun Razak entrance, and other improvement works. He will also advise on the upcoming Sports Annexe, poolside renovations, and new Pickleball and Padel Tennis facilities, working alongside Justin Ong, Sports and Sports Projects Convenor.

Vice-Captain David Mah, overseeing Greens and Golf Facilities, will implement the new airconditioned golf simulator facility in the renovated Squash Court A space. He will also address labour shortages affecting course conditions and refine the Golf Superintendent’s KPIs to ensure they are specific, measurable, and time bound.

Ally, handling F&B, Events and Communications, will help ensure caterer staff are properly trained for Health and Safety standards, aiming for the HACCP gold standard. He will also assess alternative F&B options for quality and reliability while managing event planning and member communications.

Ezani, Golf and Caddies Convenor, will work with the new appointed Lady Golf Captain to formalize a Terms of Reference, ensuring processes are in place to support our lady golfers and caddie operations.

In Membership, we will establish objective criteria for new members and review our Reciprocal Club portfolio, adding like minded clubs, removing low value ones, and protecting strained relationships with unilateral usage restrictions where necessary.

So much to do, and so little time. But with this team, we are ready for the challenge.
