Classic Golf, Carlsberg Style!

The Carlsberg Golf Classic 2025, one of Malaysia’s longestrunning amateur golf tournaments, is celebrating its 32nd edition this year. With 32 qualifying rounds taking place across the country, the series will culminate in a much-anticipated National Final at the West Course at KLGCC on November 7.

On 20 July, the Royal Selangor Golf Club proudly hosted one of the qualifying rounds on the Old Course. The day began bright and early at 7:24 a.m. with a 4-point tee start from Holes 1, 6, 10 and 15, with players ferried by van to their respective starting points. A total of 89 RSGC Members turned up for the competition — a strong show of support for an event that has become a firm favourite on the RSGC calendar.

The tournament format saw players competing in Gross and Nett categories, with plenty of lighthearted fun thrown in through novelty contests like Longest Drive, Nearest to Pin, and the crowdfavourite Nearest to Bottle. In the Gross category, Leong Chun Yan emerged champion with a composed round of 72, followed by Wilson Lian (76) and Casey Ng (78). Over in the Nett division, James Teh Kai Weng impressed with a stellar 64 (off a 23 handicap) to take top spot, while Lilian Liew and Lloyds Kueh both carded 69, with Lilian edging ahead on countback for second place.

It wasn’t just the winners who had reason to smile — everyone went home with something. Each participant received a packed goodie bag featuring a Carlsberg cooler bag, Adidas T-shirt, TaylorMade golf balls, sunscreen, and a refreshing selection of drinks from Somersby, Connors, 1664, and Carlsberg. As for the champions and novelty prize winners? They picked up even more — from TaylorMade hybrids and Garmin rangefinders to Cutter & Buck gear and stylish golf bags.

All in all, it was a day that truly captured the spirit of the game — competitive yet lighthearted, smoothly run yet full of charm. RSGC was proud to be part of the Carlsberg tradition, and as the day wrapped with smiles all around, everyone left with happy memories and a little more love for the game.

A special congratulations to Leong Chun Yan and James Teh Kai Weng — our Gross and Nett champions — who have qualified for the Carlsberg Golf Classic National Final. Good luck and all the best!
