Piala Tunku Abdul Rahman 2025

The Piala Tunku Abdul Rahman returned from 24–26 October 2025, played across the East, West and Old Courses. This prestigious stroke play championship honours Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj — Malaysia’s Father of Independence and a cherished figure in RSGC’s history.

This year carried special significance as Tunku Muinuddin Putra, the grandson of Tunku Abdul Rahman, joined as a marker on the final day, paying tribute to his late grandfather and strengthening the historic bond between the Tunku family and RSGC.

Both the Men’s and Ladies’ Editions once again showcased the Club’s finest golfing talent over three competitive days.

MEN’S EDITION

The men’s field delivered another strong showing, and a new champion emerged.

Justin Chan, competing in his first-ever Piala Tunku Abdul Rahman Justin Chan, aged 23, delivered a composed and commanding performance, to secure the title with a total score of 208.

Faiq Abu Sahid finished as runner-up with 219, while Justin also secured Best Nett Overall (211), completing a remarkable debut in this prestigious championship.

Reflecting on his victory, Justin shared:

“It’s always great to be able to play and win a prestigious tournament at Royal Selangor Golf Club, and it is a pleasure to play against the top players at the Club and compete against them. I’d love to see more events like this throughout the year, with more players showing up and competing to truly make the events at RSGC special!”

On how college golf prepared him for the challenge, he added:

“It was very similar — college events also last 2–3 days, so I was used to the long rounds and multiday tournaments, which definitely helped me.”

His message to fellow young RSGC golfers:

“Just enjoy the game. There’s no wrong way to play or practise. As long as you’re having fun, you’ll learn to love the grind and improve.”

LADIES’ EDITION

The Ladies’ Edition, now in its second year, continued to gain momentum as one of RSGC’s emerging marquee events.

Members with a handicap index of 16.8 and below competed across three days, showcasing consistency, patience, and competitive spirit.

In a thrilling finale, Ai-Dee Wong, Lilian Liew, and Dania Lau tied on 259 and entered a playoff.

The title was decided on the first playoff hole, where Ai-Dee Wong, who also serves as RSGC Lady Golf Vice-Captain (2025/2026), emerged victorious.

Lilian Liew secured runnerup via countback, while Chizuko Hirata claimed Best Nett (226) on countback.

Ai-Dee reflected on her breakthrough triumph:

“I honestly didn’t expect anything considering I was 12 strokes back from the leader. I just wanted to post a good round after two disastrous days. We were the first flight out, waiting over an hour for the championship flight. Then suddenly… the word ‘playoff’ was mentioned. I was panicking!”

She shared the emotional moment on the playoff green:

“My hands were shaking and I could barely breathe. My heart was racing. It was my FIRST PLAYOFF. My birdie attempt was horrible and I had six feet left for par. Lilian missed. Dania missed. And then… somehow, mine dropped. Barely. I blacked out and the tears came. Fate. That’s all I can say.”

She also expressed her gratitude:

“Thank you to everyone who supported me through every nearmiss. And a special thank-you to Faridah for capturing the winning moment. You made it even more special.”

As Lady Golf Vice-Captain, Ai-Dee shared her hopes for women’s golf at RSGC:

“I hope to see our ladies golf section continue to grow, not just in numbers, but in friendship and inclusiveness. Let’s create an environment where we enjoy the game together, support one another, and continue striving to play at our best.”

Across both editions, hearty congratulations go out to all daily medal winners, podium finishers, and every participant who gave their best over three days of competition.

Your commitment, resilience, and sportsmanship truly embody the spirit of the Piala Tunku Abdul Rahman, and keep this championship a treasured tradition at RSGC.
