From 16 to 25 October 2025, two Club Members Halimah Mohd Said and Shahril Hamzah organised an inclusive art exhibition at The Gallery, showcasing some 64 artworks by five female and four male local artists, including 91-yearold Ahmad Hassan and 15-year-old disabled artist Branden Lim. Despite their age and physical limitations, they bravely demonstrate that the love for art knows no bounds when you are inspired and passionate about it.
The exhibition’s main objective was to use the Club’s beautiful space at The Gallery overlooking the golf course as a most suitable venue for an art event that provides Club Members, their families and guests with a rich socio-cultural experience in support of worthy community causes, such as art education for the disabled and the disadvantaged. Befitting its name, The Gallery was transformed into a colourful display of paintings installed on panels and easels where artists were given their individual spaces to showcase their unique works. The outside view of the golf course with its cultivated greens against the natural habitat and city skyline, enhanced the beauty of the artworks placed on easels against the wide windows.
The highlight of the 10-day exhibition was the official launch at the Banquet Hall on Saturday, 18 October at 3.00pm by His Royal Highness Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan who was accompanied by Her Royal Highness Tuanku Aishah Rohani Bt Almarhum Tengku Mahmud, Tuanku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan.
Some 150 guests including notable Club VIPs, Club Members, art collectors and enthusiasts, guests and families of the artists filled up the theatre-style seating to witness the launch proceedings which included the welcome speech, a video presentation of the artists and their artworks, and the unveiling of a painting to mark the official launch. After its unveiling, the painting titled Juxtaposition by Halimah Mohd Said was gifted to Their Royal Highnesses as a token of the artists’ appreciation for Their Royal Highnesses’ gracious presence and support.
After the launch ceremony, their Royal Highnesses and guests were invited up to The Gallery to tour the exhibition and meet the artists to view at close range their display of artworks. The guests too had the opportunity to greet Their Royal Highnesses and exchange a word or two with the artists.
The exhibition title Random Thoughts In Art gives the artists the widest scope to explore their subject matter, their artistic styles and techniques with each artwork reflecting the artist’s distinct backgrounds, interests and influences. Thus there is realism in portraiture, fauna and flora, impressionism in landscape, abstract expressionism as well as the use of digital enhancements and technical hybrids.
The paintings tell diverse stories from personal reflections of the wonders of nature to philosophy and the deep thoughts of mighty prophets and extracts from the Qur’an. Each work provides the artist’s unique visual interpretation of the subject matter conveyed through the array of hues from a shared colour palette. While underscoring this diversity, interestingly when displayed as a collection, a harmonious unity surfaces across the random thoughts expressed in the subject matter.
We would like to thank the RSGC Committee for kindly offering us the Club’s amenities and assistance in organising the Random Thoughts In Art exhibition which attracted many visitors who came for the launch as well as our daily guests throughout the duration of the exhibition. They were most impressed that the RSGC provided the Club space to hold such a meaningful communityoriented event.
It is hoped that The Royal Selangor Golf Club with its huge financial resources will collaborate with its Members in more substantive ways to organise interesting socio-cultural events to provide them, their families and guests with a more enriching and wholesome clubbing experience. Besides golf and the other sports that the RSGC develops and supports, it is timely that the Club open its doors to a greater diversity of socio-cultural events and experiences.
