Hiroshi Aoki and Wan Azfar Take RSGC Super Senior Golf Championship Titles 2026

The RSGC Super Senior Golf Championship continues to celebrate the competitive spirit and dedication of our super senior members, proving that passion for the game knows no age. The 2026 edition featured two Championship categories — 70 to 79 years and 80 years and above — providing Super Seniors with an inclusive platform to compete under Championship conditions.

The Championship was open to Male Members aged 70 years and above with a valid WHS Handicap Index of 23.9 and below at the close of entries. A total of 17 Super Seniors took part in this year’s event, which was contested over 18 holes of stroke play on Sunday morning, 25 January 2026, played on the Old Course from the White Tees.

In the 80 years and above category, Hiroshi Aoki continued his remarkable run of form, securing the Championship title with a gross score of 95. This victory marked his third consecutive Super Senior Championship title, having also claimed wins in 2024 and 2025. Mohd Salleh finished as runner-up with a gross score of 102, and also captured the Best Nett prize with a score of 79 nett.

In the 70 to 79 years category, Wan Azfar reclaimed the Championship title, adding the 2026 crown to his previous win in 2022. Wan Azfar returned rounds of 42 and 40 for a winning gross score of 82, edging out Bobby Ong, who finished runner-up just two strokes behind on 84. Wan Azfar also secured the Best Nett award in his category with a score of 75 nett, rounding off an impressive performance.

Following the Championship, both Super Senior Champions were invited to share their thoughts, reflecting on their victories, their motivation to continue competing, and what the Super Senior Championship means to them at this stage of their golfing journeys.

80 YEARS OLD AND ABOVE CATEGORY CHAMPION – HIROSHI AOKI

1. Congratulations on your third consecutive Super Senior title — what does this achievement mean to you?

Thank you very much. Winning three consecutive titles is truly an honour. More than the result itself, I am grateful that I am still healthy enough to enjoy the game I love. This achievement belongs not only to me, but also to my playing partners, friends, and everyone who supports me.

2. What keeps you inspired to return and compete each year?

Golf gives me purpose and joy. Competing with friends, walking the course, and challenging myself keeps my spirit young. Every year I look forward to meeting familiar faces and sharing good moments on the course.

3. How do you prepare yourself physically and mentally for competitions today?

I focus on consistency rather than intensity. I walk regularly, stretch every day, and listen carefully to my body. Mentally, I remind myself to stay relaxed and enjoy each shot. At my age, staying calm is more important than hitting far.

4. What message would you like to share with other members about staying active through golf?

Golf is a wonderful lifelong sport. It keeps our bodies moving and our minds sharp, but most importantly, it connects people. My message is simple: enjoy the game, take care of your health, and keep coming back to the course with a smile.

70 YEARS OLD UNTIL 79 YEARS OLD CATEGORY CHAMPION – WAN AZFAR

1. Congratulations on reclaiming the Super Senior title — how meaningful is this win, having last claimed it in 2022?

Thank you, always nice to win. In golf (as of life), “you win some & you lose some”. But whatever, one must try & strive to be better (despite golf being ever so challenging & difficult!)

2. What continues to motivate you to compete at this level?

Golf is complex, many traditions to the game, techniques revolve with technology although basic principles of the swing or styles remain intact as played hundreds of years ago. The desire to keep on improving motivates me to enjoy many more rounds of golf.

3. How has your approach to the game changed over the years?

No change. Everyone must keep on to be motivated & improve; not just winning but maintaining that good spirit of golf; upholding the august principles of the game, proper behaviour & etiquette, respect & cordial interactions with fellow golfers whenever we are in a golfing environment.

4. What advice would you share with fellow seniors who are thinking about taking part in Club competitions?

Jom! Let’s go! Please join in & participate to make it merrier. Meeting up, compete & having many interactions between us is fun. Win or lose, we are all winners whenever we’re out there playing golf!

Congratulations once again to Hiroshi Aoki and Wan Azfar on their outstanding achievements at this year’s RSGC Super Senior Golf Championship. Their performances reflect not only skill and experience, but also the enduring passion for the game that defines the Super Senior community at RSGC. Super Senior members are warmly encouraged to continue taking part in Club competitions, including the Super Senior Golf Friendly, a quarterly social game held on Thursday evenings, and to enjoy the camaraderie and spirit of golf together.
