The annual Interport Match between The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) and The Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) was held on 16–17 May 2026, continuing a proud tradition of friendship, sportsmanship and competitive golf between two of the region’s most distinguished golfing institutions.
Led by Team Captain Justin Ong and Lady Golf Captain Stella Chau, the RSGC team travelled to Singapore for two days of spirited competition, warm fellowship and the renewal of a longstanding sporting tradition between the two clubs. The visiting team was warmly welcomed by the newly elected SICC Captain Lam Zhiqun and Lady Golf Captain Francesca Kirkham, whose hospitality set the tone for an enjoyable and memorable weekend.
The opening day presented an early challenge as heavy rain forced play to be suspended for almost two hours. Despite the interruption, players from both clubs remained in high spirits as competition resumed across the New Course, Millennium Course and Forest Course. The delay did little to dampen the competitive atmosphere, with closely contested matches taking place throughout the afternoon.
At the conclusion of the first day’s play, SICC held the advantage in all three competitions, giving the hosts a strong platform heading into the final day’s matches. The hosts secured a 7–3 lead in the Tan Sri Hashim Ali Trophy, while also leading the Dato’ Loke Wan Tho Memorial Trophy 19–13 and the C.C. Tan/Leong Hoe Yeng Challenge Trophy 12–8.
Following the day’s play, SICC hosted a memorable Welcome Dinner for the visiting RSGC team. Members from both clubs enjoyed an evening of camaraderie and fellowship, reaffirming the longstanding bonds forged through decades of Interport competition. The evening was further enhanced by live band entertainment, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere for players and officials alike.
The weather was much better on the second day, providing ideal conditions for golf. A particular highlight for the RSGC team was the opportunity to play on SICC’s newly renovated Island Course. As the Island Course is generally not accessible to reciprocal members, many participants had the rare opportunity to experience it for the first time. The opportunity to play the beautifully presented course was greatly appreciated and proved to be one of the most memorable aspects of the tour.
SICC continued their strong form on the final day, completing a clean sweep of the Tan Sri Hashim Ali Trophy matches with a commanding 10–0 result. The hosts also repeated their Day One performances in the Dato’ Loke Wan Tho Memorial Trophy and the C.C. Tan / Leong Hoe Yeng Challenge Trophy, prevailing 19–13 and 12–8 respectively.
With those results, SICC successfully retained all three Interport trophies, demonstrating their strength across all divisions. The hosts secured the Tan Sri Hashim Ali Trophy by 17–3, the Dato’ Loke Wan Tho Memorial Trophy by 38–26 and the C.C. Tan / Leong Hoe Yeng Challenge Trophy by 24–16.
While the trophies remained with SICC, the true success of the Interport Match was once again measured by the friendships renewed, the camaraderie shared and the mutual respect displayed throughout the weekend. The event continues to serve as a testament to the values both clubs hold dear and the special bond that has developed between their Members over many years.
RSGC extends its sincere appreciation to Captain Lam Zhiqun, Lady Golf Captain Francesca Kirkham, and the members and staff of The Singapore Island Country Club for their outstanding hospitality and meticulous organisation throughout the event. From the excellent golfing facilities and warm welcome to the memorable dinner and entertainment, SICC ensured a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all members of the visiting delegation.
The Club also records its appreciation to Team Captain Justin Ong, Lady Golf Captain Stella Chau, and all Members of the RSGC team for their commitment, sportsmanship and dedication in representing the Club throughout the weekend.
Congratulations to SICC on their success in the 2026 Interport Match. RSGC now looks forward to welcoming our friends from Singapore in September 2026, when another chapter of this cherished tradition will undoubtedly be written.
