Captain’s Corner [March 2024]

Dear Members,

How quickly the year seems to be moving forward. As we move swiftly through the year, transitioning from the Chinese New Year festivities to the solemn period of Ramadhan, I extend my heartfelt greetings to those observing, ‘Salam Ramadhan’, wishing you all the blessings of the holy month.

Our calendar is buzzing with activities, highlighted by the prestigious Club Championships Trophy and the commencement of Inter-Club matches. February saw us warmly welcoming our Japanese friends from Biwako Country Club and Nara International Golf Club. We eagerly anticipate hosting Hakone Country Club in the first week of March, marking the continuation of this dynamic and active period in our club’s annual schedule.

It’s unfortunate and highly disappointing that I must address the current condition of the ‘Old Course’ Greens. The recent North East Monsoon’s excessive rainfall and lack of sunlight have led to fungal diseases, significantly impacting the greens’ quality. It is evident that the proactive measures taken by our Field Department were insufficient in mitigating these effects. We are committed to rectifying this situation promptly, with an estimated recovery period of 11 weeks following a dedicated treatment plan. We extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding as we work towards a resolution.

On a brighter note, the utilization of our other sports facilities remains strong, with the gym and associated activities seeing particularly high engagement. We are pleased to announce plans for significant upgrades, including the refurbishment of facilities and the replacement of aged equipment, all set to coincide with ongoing roof and drainage improvements. For tennis, swimming, and related activities, we have planned a series of events that will respectfully accommodate a ‘break period’ during Ramadhan.

We kindly remind all members to enjoy the Club’s facilities responsibly, with respect and consideration for fellow members.

Happy Clubbing!
