Lady Golf Captain’s Corner [April 2024]

Another enjoyable month of golf for the ladies, including in late February more visits from our Japanese friends, this time from Biwako Country Club and Hakone Country Club. As always, our RSGC Japanese ladies stepped up to host our guests. We had 1 lady guest from Biwako and 7 from Hakone. We were pleasantly surprised to see our guests wearing our official Ladies Second Day green batik shirts. Our visitors seem to love these exclusively designed shirts. The ladies from Hakone included an 80-year-old, Michiko Mitarai. We always enjoy hosting the ladies during our interclub games although they are usually small groups.

CLUB MORNING

Was it because it was the last Club Morning before Ramadhan or has the news gone round that our Club Morning is fun and the ladies get to learn important lessons about the rules of golf and different game formats? Whichever it was, I was completely surprised to greet a field of 24 players, one of our highest ever turnouts. Due to the overwhelming response, we gave out two prizes, one for the 30-36 handicappers and one for the handicaps of 37 and above. In the 30-36 category, the winner was Ziltawati with 23 Stableford points and the winner in the other category was Mariko Hosaka with 20 Stableford points. This is the Club Morning we like to see and we hope even more ladies will join us in the future.

Hosting Ladies from Hakone

CHINESE NEW YEAR GAME

It is not hard to find a reason to have a friendly game of golf. We have one for Merdeka, Christmas, and Chinese New Year was definitely one. Dressed in the mandatory red, the ladies enjoyed 9 holes followed by Yee Sang in the Glass Room. Everyone put in RM10 for the prize pool. Great hilarity ensued while performing the Yee Sang toss with the usual calls for pars, birdies and holes in one.

MONTHLY MEDAL

Not only did we have a record turnout for our March Club Morning, the Monthly Medal saw us once again successfully fielding enough players to have 3 divisions. If we do not have the required 8 players for each division, then the divisions are collapsed with prizes given for the top finishers. This means that a player has to fight the entire field instead of just their own division. I call upon all our Ladies to sign up for the Monthly Medals, the worst that can happen is you will score points for the Order of Merit for participation.

I would like to make a special mention of congratulations to our Ladies Amateur Open Defending Champion Mirabel Ting who has achieved a stunning number 17 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking tables, the highest position ever achieved by a Malaysian amateur player. We look forward to her return from the USA where she is studying, to defend her title at our 47th LAO in July.

A successful test for Tan Ei Leen by Sheryl Long

I wish our Muslim ladies a blessed Ramadhan and look forward to seeing everyone on the golf course after Hari Raya.
