On 29 September 2024, the Club held its first Annual Swimming Championship (GALA) for the year. This highly anticipated event, marked by many parents and kids due to its marquee status in the long tradition of junior sports at the RSGC, is invariably held with great expectation. The event, conducted on a beautiful Sunday morning, saw around 60 swimmers, all eager to compete and test their limits, arriving as early as 6 a.m. to prepare for an exciting day in the pool.
The gala officially began at 7:30 a.m., with the expert officials from Persatuan Renang Amateur Kuala Lumpur (PRAKL) overseeing the event. PRAKL has built a strong relationship with the Club, having consistently aided and supported the execution of our swimming galas. Their continued involvement has been instrumental in ensuring that each event is run with the highest level of professionalism and efficiency.

The competition kicked off with a familiar and well-loved sequence of events, starting with the individual medley, followed by the butterfly, breaststroke, and freestyle races. The atmosphere was electric, with swimmers giving their best in every stroke. As in past years, the day ended on a high note with the ever-popular coin-picking game. In this fun-filled challenge, swimmers eagerly dived into the 25m pool, racing to gather coins scattered underwater, much to the delight of participants and spectators alike.
After the competitions wrapped up, swimmers and their families enjoyed a delightful Western-style buffet, offering the perfect opportunity to relax and recharge after an action-packed morning. It was a chance for everyone to sit down, spend quality time together, and celebrate the day’s achievements. As members enjoyed their meals, medals and prizes were awarded to the winners of the various events, including the overall category champions.
Overall, the swimming gala featured a great mix of veterans and newcomers, all of whom had the chance to experience the competitive spirit and excitement of the event. Congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding performances! A big thank you as well to all participants for joining in and making the event such a memorable one. We are already looking forward to the next edition, with a commitment to improving and making the gala even better in the future.
