A Year at RSGC

The 7 October 2024 marked my first year at RSGC, firstly I would like to thank all the members and staff who have made me feel so welcome at such a prestigious Golf Club.

My first experience of RSGC was having online meetings with the committee prior to me starting my new job. At that time, I was working in Switzerland and the meetings were all was scheduled at 3am Swiss time!! This meant a 2am alarm clock wakes up, shower, shave and change into suit for the meetings, with lots of coffee and to stay awake and alert. I will be honest it wasn’t easy as I usually have a busy day coaching in Switzerland on the same day, but it was definitely worth it having the opportunity to coach at RSGC.

During my meetings with the Club Management, I understood their expectations and focus for the development of the Club’s future by placing our focus on the junior members.

We had the Junior Programme where pro Zul & and myself were coaching three groups on Saturday & two groups on Sunday.

After a few months we were getting a lot of interest that we decided to increase the number of classes on a both days to accommodate the rapidly growing waiting list.

As you know development never stands still and we have recently introduced the MST Golf Junior Development Program (JDP) into our RSGC Junior Program.

The JDP is a Progression Level Structured Program which gives the Juniors an opportunity to Develop as a player from beginner to player where there are skills checkpoints and certificates of achievement along the way.

The Program has a total of five levels and after level 3 they would be competent enough to go on their playing test at RSGC.

I really enjoy seeing them all passing their playing tests and encouraging them to participate in the club’s junior competitions. There is always a common question I get asked is, “Is my child improving?” It’s clear that any child in the JDP who doesn’t practice between lessons won’t improve as fast. My word of advice is to bring your child at least once a week to practice between coaching sessions—you’ll see faster and better improvement!

Moving on from the JDP, I have also worked with Ladies Committee and we introduced some group lessons for ladies that had really good response. We had completed five sessions that covered short game techniques like putting and bunker shots.

The lesson schedule in my diary has become busier and busier over the last year, and I have also got to know a lot of the Members. For the members whom I have not met before, please feel free to come and meet me at the driving range.

I am really enjoying myself working at RSGC, and am very proud to be associated with such a great golf club. Over the past one year I have enjoyed playing at the club with various Members, and have met some new friends that have been kind enough and show me the places around KL. For those who are unaware, this is my first time in Asia. I can truly say that so far as my experience in Malaysia concerned, it is an is amazing, beautiful and friendly country that I feel like home. Now, my plan is to stay in KL for many years to come, as I really like everything about this place. It is an honour to serve the Members of RSGC.

After my first year, I now have a better understanding of what the membership expects. In the near future, we will offer additional golf lesson packages tailored to all needs, and there will be specific putting, short game, bunker, and long game packages available as well as new ‘Get into Golf Programme’ for the Members that don’t currently play golf. Please watch out for more information in the pro shop and on the driving range’s notice board.

I would like to thank all my clients for your support. It gives me great pleasure to see your improvements in this wonderful game of golf.
