SATURDAY, 30 AUGUST 2025, 3.00 PM: THE TANGLIN CLUB VS RSGC
As part of this year’s Merdeka Day celebrations, RSGC expanded its tennis activities through interclub programs in Singapore. Building on last year’s friendly with RBSC, 2025 marked a new milestone with the first-ever interclub match against The Tanglin Club (TC) and a continuation of the tradition with Singapore Island Country Club (SICC).
The collaboration with The Tanglin Club was initiated late last year and came to fruition after several exchanges between both clubs. Although the RSGC delegation was small for this inaugural visit, the enthusiasm and commitment of our players were evident.
The match was held at the Tanglin Club Sports Complex, where players were welcomed by Tennis Convenor Jacqueline and the TC tennis team. It was a pleasant surprise to see TC President Kevin Gin also join as a player and remain throughout the programme, including dinner.
Play began at 4.00 pm after a group photo session, across four courts (two indoor, two outdoor), featuring men’s, women’s, and mixed pairings. After closely contested games, RSGC secured a narrow win, edging TC with a score of 68–67.
The evening concluded with a Chinese-themed dinner hosted by The Tanglin Club, followed by a souvenir exchange between Derrick Kong (RSGC Sports & Sports Project Sub-Committee) and Jacqueline (TC Tennis Convenor). Each participant also received a token of friendship.
This match marked the first interclub tennis programme between RSGC and The Tanglin Club, a milestone both clubs look forward to continuing, with TC set to visit RSGC once upgrading works are completed next year.
RSGC extends its heartfelt thanks to The Tanglin Club for graciously hosting this event. As highlighted in Jacqueline’s speech, this was the first interclub programme in history between RSGC and TC, a truly memorable milestone. RSGC is honoured to be part of this occasion and looks forward to welcoming The Tanglin Club to RSGC once our upgrading works are completed, so they can experience our facilities next year. We sincerely thank The Tanglin Club for its excellent facilities and warm hospitality.
SUNDAY, 31 AUGUST 2025, 8.00 AM: SINGAPORE ISLAND COUNTRY CLUB VS RSGC
RSGC tennis players marked Merdeka Day, Sunday, 31 August 2025, with a friendly match against our long-time neighbour Singapore Island Country Club (SICC).
The match was held at SICC’s Bukit location, part of its golf course and sports facilities, which include both outdoor and covered tennis courts. Play took place on six hard courts (two outdoor and four covered), with the format set as men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles. Each match was played over 30 minutes, with results recorded at the end of regulation time. The team with the highest cumulative score was declared the winner.
The games began at 8.30 am and paused at 10.30 am for a souvenir exchange between the two clubs, followed by a hearty brunch. SICC was represented by Felica Tang (Tennis & Squash Convenor) and RSGC by Ken Fong (Sports & Sports Projects Sub-Committee). The food prepared by SICC was both appealing and enjoyable, featuring fried Hokkien prawn mee with side dishes, fried chicken wings, pizza, tuna sandwiches, cold cheng teng, orange cordial, as well as coffee and tea. Play resumed afterward, with food and refreshments available throughout the event.
At the conclusion of all matches, RSGC was unable to carry forward the winning momentum achieved in the recent friendly against The Tanglin Club. This time, the SICC team prevailed, securing victory with a final score of 96–79.
This programme fostered camaraderie and strengthened the bond between the two clubs. Traditionally centred around golf, such encounters now highlight tennis as a growing avenue for interclub engagement, with hopes that more sports will follow. RSGC extends its appreciation to SICC for graciously hosting the event and looks forward to welcoming them at RSGC next year once upgrading works on the sports facilities are completed.
Although this year’s interclub programme was carried out with a smaller group, the fighting spirit and commitment of all participants were truly commendable. It is hoped that future programmes will attract greater support and participation, ensuring that friendship, sportsmanship, and camaraderie remain strong between both clubs.
