RSGC Annual Tennis Championship 2025

The much-anticipated RSGC Annual Tennis Championship 2025 kicked off on Wednesday, 1 October, on the Club’s pristine grass courts. This month-long tournament featured four main categories: Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Group matches were played in a round-robin format, followed by knockout rounds from the Quarter Finals onwards. All matches were contested in the best-of-three sets format, with a tie-break at six-all.

Players were required to selfschedule their matches within the deadlines set by the Sports Department. However, the weather had other plans, torrential downpours disrupted scheduling, forcing postponements and, in some cases, unavoidable forfeitures. To ensure the tournament progressed smoothly, the Sports Sub-Committee permitted matches to be played on both grass courts and hard courts. Gradually, players completed their group games with commendable spirit and sportsmanship, truly embodying what club camaraderie is all about.

In the Men’s Singles, several tournament favourites advanced impressively: Ishan Nair, Vuitton Pang, Mark Yeo, and Ng Han Yang dominated their opponents to top their respective groups. In the semi-finals, Vuitton defeated Ishan, while Mark had to give Han Yang a walkover due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Men’s Singles Final on 1 November was a thrilling contest, with Han Yang defeating Vuitton 5–7, 7–6, 10–8 to claim the coveted trophy. Ishan secured third place.

A total of eight pairs competed in the Men’s Doubles, featuring many familiar names. Han Yang & Mark Yeo topped Group A, followed by David & Rastam. Michael Ong & Lim Eng Siang led Group B, with Simon Wong & Carl Lai coming in second. With both top-seeded opponents withdrawing, David and Rastam met Simon and Carl in the final, and delivered a convincing victory, winning 7–5, 7–5 through solid teamwork and composure.

In the Women’s Doubles, Gaby & Xer Li emerged undefeated with 6 points, while sisters Elaine & Lilian finished second with 4 points. Third place went to Wui Yi & Tamara, who secured 2 points.

The Mixed Doubles category saw impressive chemistry from mom-son duo Mary & Ishan, who defeated Yvonne & Razlan 6–2, 6–4 in the semi-finals. In the final, Gaby & Sean played a remarkable match to overcome Mary and Ishan 6–4, 6–4, much to the enjoyment of spectators. Razlan and Yvonne were delighted to finish third.

To conclude the tournament, participants attended a PrizeGiving Ceremony, followed by a lunch at the Tai Chi Hall. After a short speech by Sports & Sports Projects Convenor Justin Ong, medals and customised gift boxes were presented to all the deserving winners. It was heartwarming to see members celebrating together, enjoying fellowship and camaraderie after a month of competitive play.

A special thank-you goes to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s Championship. We look forward to welcoming all members back for another exciting edition next year.

Vamos, RSGC!
