The Royal Selangor Golf Club vs The Raintree Club of Kuala Lumpur (Platinum)
I t was a lively gathering among tennis aficionados at the recent home fixture between The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) and The Raintree Club of Kuala Lumpur (Platinum), held on the Club’s pristine grass courts.
This year’s tournament features a total of 12 teams, with RSGC drawn in Group B alongside Royal Lake Club Blues, Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, Kelab Shah Alam Selangor, The Raintree Club of Kuala Lumpur, and one additional team to be confirmed. The six-month tournament sees teams competing on a home-and-away basis, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The final will be played at a neutral venue on Saturday, 26 September 2026.
The event is organised and managed by AMG Sports Management Sdn. Bhd. and endorsed by Tennis KL, with Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad continuing as the title sponsor for the second consecutive year.
Team RSGC got off to a strong start, defeating Raintree Club Platinum 5–0, led by stand-in Captain, Gaby. Players from both teams gathered as early as 2.00pm at the Poolside Pavilion for light refreshments prepared by the Club’s F&B operator. Following the customary group photo, matches commenced at 3.15pm on Courts 5, 6 and 7.
In the Men’s Open category, Ishan Nair and Sean Szeto delivered a strong performance to defeat Satveer Seth and Ben Pang 8–5. After settling into the match, both players showcased excellent coordination, powerful strokes, and confident shot-making.
On Court 6, Pang and Vuitton secured an 8–3 win against Radian and Simon in the Men’s >90 combined age category. Their familiarity and teamwork were evident, supported by consistent finishing and minimal unforced errors.
In the Men’s >110 combined category, Hazuan and Boon Yong overcame Terry and Amin with an 8–4 victory. Spectators also enjoyed the scenic view of the Club’s wellmaintained grounds, with many complimenting the quality of the Zoysia grass courts. Kudos to the field department for maintaining the playing surfaces despite the ongoing works.
With a 3–0 lead secured, the remaining matches continued with confidence. In the Mixed Doubles >90 category, Ian and Kam SuShuin recorded an 8–4 win against Gunjan and Desiree. The visiting team struggled to adapt to the grass surface, resulting in several unforced errors at crucial points.
Let’s hope that our players maintain this momentum ahead of their scheduled away game at Kelab Shah Alam Selangor on 25 April 2026.
The final match saw Gaby and Lilian defeat Alia and Tiara 8–4 in the Ladies >60 combined category. Gaby and Lilian delivered a strong performance, marked by powerful strokes, controlled play, and consistent determination.
Following the matches, players from both teams enjoyed dinner and refreshments, with a warm atmosphere of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Appreciation is extended to the Sports staff for ensuring the smooth execution of the event.
