The Royal Selangor Golf Club vs Tropicana Golf & Country Resort

The Royal Selangor Golf Club hosted Tropicana Golf & Country Resort on Saturday, 9 May 2026, for our second home game. Having lost the previous match against Kelab Shah Alam Selangor, this was an important fixture.

Players gathered as early as 1.45 pm and started their warmup session. The grass courts were still playable despite the torrential downpour the day before. It was good to see players getting to know each other while having a bite or two. One of RSGC’s Members, Mark Yeo, was seen representing the away team in the Men’s Open category.

The matches started at 3.20 pm with the Men’s Open on Court 5, Men’s >90 Combined on Court 6, while Mixed Doubles >90 Combined was played on Court 7. Thankfully, the weather remained pleasant and the crowd enjoyed watching from the sidelines.

RSGC Team Captain Poh Lean made several changes to the line-up with the introduction of Ken Tay, Terence Chia, Ling Hee Keat, and Woo Xer Li.

Tropicana dominated the Men’s Open with some explosive play from Jovin and Mark Yeo. Sean Josh Uren-Szeto and Ken Tay struggled to find their rhythm, producing several unforced errors before eventually losing the match 4–8.

Hopes then shifted to Ian Leong and Terence Chia to draw level. Both pairs displayed strong stroke play and precision finishing, much to the delight of the spectators. Despite their efforts, Ian and Terence narrowly lost the match 5–8.

Hazuan and Kam Su-Shuin brought the momentum back to RSGC by winning their tie 8–3 against Zainul and Debbie. Both players performed remarkably well throughout the match.

The fourth match commenced on Court 6 when Ling Hee Keat and Chye Pang Hsiang faced Chew and K.C. Teo. Team RSGC dominated early on with aggressive rallies and strong determination. The crowd cheered enthusiastically after each point. However, Tropicana fought back strongly to win the match 8–3.

On Court 7, Gabrielle Los Santos and Woo Xer Li outplayed Adeline Yew and Pek Sim, winning 8–5. The victory came as a consolation as Tropicana secured the overall tie 3–2.

The evening concluded with dinner and refreshments at the Poolside Terrace. RSGC will next face Royal Lake Club Blues at home on 6 June 2026.
