Squash 57 for the young and matured
In last month’s Circular, we delved into the mission of reigniting the passion for squash at our club. One exciting avenue we are exploring is the introduction of Squash 57—a variation that promises to bring a fresh perspective to traditional squash.

Formerly known as racquetball, Squash 57 emerged in 2016, offering an easier and more accessible version of the beloved racquet sport. Utilizing a standard-sized squash court, this indoor game can be enjoyed regardless of weather conditions. The rules closely mirror traditional squash, with players taking turns hitting the ball.

Squash 57 employs a larger racquet and a bouncier ball, providing players with more time to reach and engage in rallies. Recognized as a lower-impact variant and a slower-paced version of squash, Squash 57 features a 57 mm ball diameter compared to the 40 mm used in traditional squash. The racquet used is also shorter, with a maximum length of 22 inches compared to the traditional squash racquet’s maximum length of 27 inches. This rebranding from racquetball to Squash 57 aims to broaden its appeal and make it an inclusive sport for individuals of all levels and backgrounds.
When Squash 57 made its debut in Malaysia, it sparked a surge of interest among squash enthusiasts. Spearheading this initiative, the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) conducted nationwide roadshows, paving the way for Squash 57’s growing popularity. Today, a diverse and expanding community is embracing the excitement of Squash 57.

To further fuel this enthusiasm, SRAM has organized a National Championship spanning all age groups and established a dedicated Squash 57 league. This league serves as a platform for social players to enjoy a game that seamlessly combines fun and fitness.
We are delighted to announce that Major S. Maniam (retd.), the National Coaching Director, extends a special invitation to all RSGC members. He will be conducting free introductory clinics for all age groups and genders. Save the dates: April 17th (at 6 pm) and April 20th (at 11am) right here at the RSGC squash courts. Major will provide all necessary equipment, ensuring a fun and exciting introduction to the world of Squash 57.
As we embark on this journey, let’s also consider forming an RSGC team. This opens doors to friendly matches with clubs like the Lake Club and Royal Selangor Club, fostering camaraderie within our community.
Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of the RSGC Squash 57 movement! Join us at the clinics, experience the thrill of the game, and together, let’s make RSGC a force to be reckoned with on the Squash 57 court. See you there!
