The Social: A Refreshed Approach to Club Dining

Following the appointment of Bluefire Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the company behind The Social Group of Restaurants, as the new food and beverage operator at The Royal Selangor Golf Club, members are now experiencing a refreshed approach to dining across the Club.

Rather than representing a single outlet, The Social oversees the Club’s overall dining operations, introducing updated menus and a more contemporary dining approach that caters to a wide range of preferences.

One of the most noticeable aspects is the variety offered across the menu. It leans towards comfort dining, while maintaining sufficient range to suit different appetites. My experience reflected this variety, with the opportunity to sample several dishes rather than focusing on a single item.

I began with a simple plate of rice served with mixed vegetables and a fresh salad. The vegetables retained their natural texture and colour, avoiding overcooking, while the Caesar salad was crisp, light and well balanced. It provided a wholesome and refreshing start to the meal.

The sweet and sour fish followed, offering a more pronounced flavour profile. The dory was tender and well prepared, with a lightly crisp coating that complemented the sauce. The glaze was balanced, neither overly sweet nor too sharp, allowing the natural flavour of the fish to come through.

The chicken green curry was equally satisfying. Rich yet not overly heavy, it carried a gentle depth of flavour with aromatic spices that developed gradually. Paired with rice, it delivered a comforting and well-rounded dish.

Moving into brunch selections, the eggs Benedict provided a lighter option. The dish was well executed, with a smooth hollandaise that complemented the components without overwhelming them. It offered a balanced level of richness suitable for a relaxed meal.

The beverages provided a refreshing contrast throughout. The coconut water was naturally sweet and hydrating, well suited to the local climate, while the fresh carrot juice added a clean and earthy note to conclude the meal.

What defines the current dining experience under The Social is its adaptability. It caters to those seeking lighter, healthier options, as well as those looking for more indulgent comfort dishes.
